BO BEDRE / Anno Studio
From Local Forests to Lasting Furniture
At Anno Studio, we believe great design is about more than aesthetics. It is about materials, craftsmanship, transparency, and responsible choices. That is why we are proud to reintroduce Friis & Moltke’s iconic FM320 chair – also known as the Øer Chair – crafted from Danish Douglas wood sourced from forests close to Aarhus.
Design Rooted in Place
Originally designed by Friis & Moltke in 1987 for the Maritime Holiday Village in Ebeltoft, the FM320 embodies the timeless simplicity and functionality of Danish design.
When Anno Studio acquired the rights to the design, our ambition was not simply to relaunch the chair, but to rethink how it could be produced today. The Douglas timber used for the FM320 is sourced from forests in Himmerland, less than 100 kilometres from Aarhus. The trees are harvested, transported, and processed locally, creating a short and transparent supply chain from forest to finished product.
Traceability as Part of the Story
Each FM320 chair is produced using timber certified under Danish Woodlands, an initiative that promotes responsible forestry and local sourcing. Through this system, customers can trace the wood back to the specific forest and plot of land where the trees were grown.
For us, traceability is more than documentation. It creates a meaningful connection between the raw material, the people who work with it, and the finished piece of furniture. Understanding where a product comes from adds value and encourages a longer relationship with it.
Inspired by TRÆ
Anno Studio is based in TRÆ in Aarhus, Denmark’s tallest timber building. The project reflects a strong commitment to reuse, upcycling, and knowledge sharing—values that closely align with our own approach to furniture production.
From façade panels made from recycled steel to solar shading elements created from retired wind turbine blades, the building demonstrates how materials can be given new purpose. We are particularly inspired by the project's transparency, where both achievements and challenges are openly shared as part of the learning process.
Quality Over Quantity
The production of the FM320 follows the rhythm and limitations of nature. Only a limited number of Douglas trees have been harvested, and as a result, the chairs are produced in a limited series.
This approach stands in contrast to the mass-production model that dominates much of the global furniture industry. At Anno Studio, we believe in creating fewer products of higher quality—pieces designed to last for generations rather than seasons.
A Responsibility Towards the Future
Every year, millions of tonnes of furniture are discarded across Europe. It is a development we believe the industry must address. As designers and manufacturers, we have a responsibility to create furniture that can be maintained, repaired, and appreciated over time.
The FM320 is more than the relaunch of a design classic. It is an example of how local production, responsible forestry, and Danish craftsmanship can come together in a contemporary interpretation of timeless design.
For us, the future of furniture is not only about how it looks, but also about where it comes from and the story it carries.
